A $4 Million Rock
Many of us have come across tiny quartz rocks while digging in playgrounds. While this isn’t uncommon, finding a quartz rock the size of a sandbox is. But what you probably didn’t know about the mineral is that it serves a million-and-one different purposes in manufacturing, making it a precious stone.
This Arkansas man was part of an excavation team that was scouring for the mineral, but little did they know that they’d run into a 2,000-pound chunk during their mining trip. With the help of heavy machinery, he and his team were able to extract the rock where stayed in a museum until finally being auctioned off.
