Make up Your Mind, McDonald’s
When McDonald’s apple pies hit the menus in 1968, they were nothing like the doughy latticed dessert they serve today. The original pies were known for their bubbly, flaky crust and scorching hot filling resulting from a trip to the fryer. In 1992, American McDonald’s suddenly decided they cared about our health and switched to baking them instead, while the rest of the world kept it crispy.

In 2018, McDonald’s gave them yet another healthier upgrade and a brand new look. The revamp meant fewer ingredients and less sugar. The dessert has never been outright discontinued, but the changes have left diners yearning for the good old days of fried apple pies. Word has it, Americans can still get their hands on the McDonald’s fried favorite in Hawaii.
