They Snapped, Crackled, and Popped Our Hearts
Rice Krispies Treats cereal was one of a handful of cereals that created a loophole for kids to eat sugary desserts for breakfast because for some unknown reason, we believe anything is acceptably healthy as long as we make it tiny, put it in a bowl, and add milk. Appearing in 1993, Rice Krispies Treats cereal was a favorite for decades before its demise in 2020.

In 2019, Kellogg’s made the mistake of deconstructing the cereal’s marshmallowy clusters into a lazy recipe of loose Rice Krispies mixed with dried-out marshmallows. Following major backlash and a Change.org petition with over 16,000 signatures, Kellogg’s shrugged their shoulders and stopped making it altogether. The breakfast food company tweeted its condolences and had the audacity to recommend Frosted Rice Krispies as a replacement.
