When it comes to timeless TV sitcoms, only a few titles pop into mind, one of them being I Love Lucy. During its run on TV, I Love Lucy maintained the highest viewership for a number of reasons, the most prominent of which is the colorful, heart-filled cast. And Lucy and her on-screen and real-life husband, Desi Arnaz, were a joy to watch, things weren’t as peachy behind the scenes as they were on camera.
Love at first sight
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz initially met on the set of Too Many Girls. Desi starred in the Broadway musical as the bandleader, while Lucy was one of the backup stars. By then, Lucy was already an established actress, but this was Desi’s huge break. On their first day on set, nothing happened, but they were quick to notice one another.
But people could feel the electricity in the air on the second day. One of their co-stars, Eddi Bracken, claimed that they connected so quickly that to most, it seemed like it wouldn’t last. In fact, their co-stars were betting on how long (or short) the relationship would last.
