#12: When Things Finally Even Out
We said how the Even-Steven theory doesn’t hold up because things don’t always even out in Jerry’s favor. When the gang is sentenced and sent to jail at the show’s finale, you could say things even out for the viewers as they finally get the justice they deserve. Throughout the show, the group makes numerous mistakes and truly behaves rather awfully, but there is no real moment of reconciliation for any of them. It seems no matter how awful they behave, either towards others or each other, karma never catches up with them.
That is, until the final episode when they are then arrested and tried for breaking the Good Samaritan Law (how fitting). Newman is seen eating popcorn during the season finale, watching their trial, which is certainly in tune with his character. Newman choking while the group is on trial is a great image of karma.
