Postcards
The purchase of postcards has decreased a staggering amount. Printing companies used to sell up to 20 million postcards per year, and only about 5 million are sold today. Postcards were already on their way to becoming obsolete when email was created, but there are more obvious reasons why millennials, especially, are buying this tourist item less and less.
I cannot stress this enough. Millennials are addicted to their smartphones!!! Why would they ever buy postcards when social media apps like Facebook and Instagram save them time and money with the ability to post several photos with virtual messages for many of their friends to see. Postcards are now mostly used for decorative purposes.
