Metal detectors can be a lot of fun to take out to the beach or anywhere else you might dig up lost coins and jewelry for a game of Finders Keepers, but they become way less fun when you use your wife’s gold ring to test it out, and the detector doesn’t work.
Another possibility is that the detector works perfectly fine, but the ring wasn’t real gold. In either case, the post made for an enjoyable time for other Redditors who pitched in to help find the missing jewelry. The ring was found safe in about 45 minutes. Maybe they’ll just hold the ring and hover the detector over it to test it out next time.
