The list of great Hollywood actors continues unfortunately with this next addition, Sidney Poitier. This man set a new standard for actors in America who came from different ethnic backgrounds and paved the way for African American actors especially. He was the first black actor to win an Academy Award, which was no small thing at the time. 

Apart from his success as an actor, he was also a diplomat and a director himself. Without the success of Sidney Poitier who knows how much longer it would have taken for people of different backgrounds to break into Hollywood? It seems so normal now, but it was a struggle not that long ago.
