Ha Ha Tonka Castle in Missouri
The Ha Ha Tonka Castle, on the other hand, is not a joke. The lighthearted name of this castle has a rather tragic backstory. Robert McClure Snyder bought this property near Ha Ha Lake in 1903, but he perished in a vehicle accident three years later.
In 1942, a forest fire destroyed all of the vegetation except its foundations and a few walls. The house was handed over to his sons, who attempted their hardest to finish the castle. Unfortunately, the Snyder family was ill-equipped to handle the economic downturn following the Great Recession, and they converted the castle into a hotel.
