Carleton Villa in New York
The Carleton Villa is, without a doubt, one of the most stunning homes we’ve ever seen. This house on Carleton Island in New York was built in 1894 by William Wyckoff. His wife passed away in her sleep a year before the family would move in, and he would meet the same fate not long after.
However, due to the Great Depression, their son had to sell it. General Electric was prepared to purchase the estate, but when World War 2 broke out, the firm abandoned plans to convert the mansion into a getaway for its executives.
