The Sun cannot become a black hole
Stars are the foundation of a black hole, but does that mean Earth will be destroyed by one eventually? No, our Sun cannot become a black hole. Although stars with collapsed gravitational forces do form black holes, the size and capacity of our star don’t warrant such an outcome… at least not now.
While it’s reassuring to know that the Sun is too small to go supernova and then collapse into a black hole, don’t get too comfortable–that only has to happen when its life ends. A star has to be sizable enough to cause a black hole, and our Earth’s star just doesn’t cut it. The Sun would need to be at least 20 times bigger in mass to form an implosion of this kind.
