The first sighting was in the 1960s
It’s incredible that black holes have only been spotted in the last century, despite all of our advancements in technology and science. The first black hole was found in the 1960s by exploring X-Ray astronomy. This led to the discovery of Cygnus X-1, a ten times Earth-massed black hole.
If you look back, black holes have been a popular topic in science journals, fiction books, movies, and comics. A new world entirely has been created from works of fiction and non-fiction about the potential capabilities of black holes. Out of all these stories, Cygnus X-1 was what started people’s fascination with black holes.
