Scientists finally captured an image of a black hole
Because gamma rays are the only light black holes emit, and they’re barely noticeable amidst all the other stars in space, scientists have never managed to take a photo of one…until now. Although past studies have tried to triangulate their position by studying events that surround them, this is the first time we’ve gotten an up-close view.
The first-ever photograph of a Supermassive, taken in 2019, was located about 500 trillion kilometers away and measured around 40 billion kilometers across – 6.5 billion times greater than the Sun. The capture required a network of eight spread-out telescopes from around the world.
