Bison Struck By Lightning
Sparky was the name given to a bison that survived a lightning strike in 2013. He came to represent his species’ fortitude and endurance. In Iowa’s Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, he roamed freely throughout his entire life.
Sparky sired three calves before the strike. Sparky is a bison from the United States. In the United States, there are about 500,000 bison on private lands and about 30,000 on public lands. They prefer cool-season grasses in their diet. They may drink snow for water.
