Baby Swordfish
Isn’t that a swordfish? Yes, it is. But aren’t they one of the world’s biggest freshwater fish, according to biologists? Their life cycle begins with them being the size of a microgram and ends with them weighing 1000 pounds at maturity. They are part of species such as marlin and sawfish. A typical marlin might weigh more than 1500 pounds and measure 14.6 feet in length.
Some of the most remarkable accounts we’ve heard from deep-sea fishers are that they once caught a 4,500-pound marlin. And it was nearly 46 years ago. They could not weigh it without breaking it down into three pieces. The Venezuelan government has erected a statue of the marlin and placed it at the famed Cultural Pavilion entrance in recognition of its historical significance.
