Newborn Flying Fox Clinging To Mother
The Indian flying fox is nothing like the common wild foxes of the canine family that you are familiar with. These are, in fact, more like hairy bats. Young flying foxes generally cannot fly until they are several months old. Adults, on the other hand, may spread their wings wide at around 5.25 feet apart.
The flying fox, or rousette bat, is a member of the family Pteropodidae and is native to Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Pacific islands. Unlike most bats, most flying foxes have good eyesight and are not always nocturnal. They form colonies of around 200 thousand individuals. The males also mate in an unusual position: upside down.
