They Called Dibs
While history records the United Kingdom as a worldwide conqueror, they have taken it easy on the conquest front. Now, if they had been able to reach the moon in the 1800s, it would be a completely different story. They’d have probably changed its name, and we’d all be using fancy terms to refer to it.

The name of the moon is derived from its use as a calendar. Its origins may be traced to the Old English term “Mōna,” which drew inspiration from the Latin metri. That’s correct. It was initially a “metric” for time, which is how it acquired its name. The Italians called it Luna, which is why we call it the “lunar.”
