Evolution is wild and instead follows the “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” approach to improvement. Horseshoe crabs have survived in the same form for millennia because they are already formed in the perfect design for what they need to accomplish. They just keep doing what they’ve always been doing because they’re marine animals with long lifespans and strong immunities.

Sea spiders are a type of spider that lives on the ocean floor. They only live for about twenty years, but they can produce up to 4,000 eggs at once and 88,000 eggs in one season. They’re not crabs, either. In fact, they’re more closely related to arachnids and ticks than crabs. Humans remain their most significant risk; however, our observations show that their numbers rapidly decline.
