Keeping the Train Running
All of us are used to stories of business people who have to make decisions based on their bottom line rather than what’s best for people and their customers. So it’s wonderful to hear about instances where firms do the right thing, even if it isn’t a sound financial decision.
When it became evident that a station in a remote location was not being used much, Japan Railway had the option of withdrawing service—that’s what most businesses would do. Instead, they helped a student who might have been unable to complete her education otherwise. It’s an incredible (and unusual) tale about a corporation doing the right thing.
