It’s incredible how much of a nation’s budget may be devoted to military and defense expenditures. Last year, for example, the United States invested more than $800 billion in its military and defense. The armed forces are still necessary, but $800 billion? Imagine if you could use even a tiny amount of that money to fund other initiatives!

Look at Costa Rica for an example of what a country can accomplish. By disbanding their military and directing the funds to education, they boosted literacy rates by 98 percent. If you don’t think that sounds like much, consider that the USA’s literacy rate is only 79 percent.
