A Dear Santa letter from 1937
This envelope has something genuinely mystical about it. You can clearly see a youngster, presumably named Dick (we think), wrote the first line on his own, and a parent completed the “to Santa” portion. It’s from 1937, as demonstrated by the writing on it and the incredibly cool, appropriately festive stamp.

A stack of scrapbooks and photo albums from the 1930s to 1950s was discovered by someone who couldn’t bear to open it. It was described as “magic” – “The essence of Xmas represented in a folded piece of paper sealed in a penny envelope (which) remained unopened for 83 years.”
