A face from the late 1880s has probably been seen before
An unknown young woman drowned in Paris in the late 1880s. According to the customs of France at that time, bodies were placed on public view for identification purposes. The young woman’s corpse was likewise displayed, yet when no one stepped forward to claim acquaintance with her, it was decided she should be buried.
Before she was buried, a worker at the mortuary decided to make a death mask of her face. The face mask became something that was sold across France, increasing the young lady’s posthumous fame. Eventually, the face became the face of a doll used for CPR training. Many people may have kissed these dolls during their CPR training in school without even knowing it!
