Don’t go to the car in a nuclear bomb explosion
Scientists sound the alarm that in the event of a nuclear bomb detonation, one should NOT enter their car. Though it may be intuited to do so, there are reasons this action would pose more significant dangers. To begin with, when everyone else is driving erratically due to panic, accidents become much more likely.
However, the primary reason to do this is to protect against fallout. This noxious mixture of radioisotopes from nuclear blasts can cause acute radiation sickness that permanently damages the body’s ability to heal itself. The only way to prevent being harmed by fallout is with materials like lead that block and absorb radiation. Obviously, our cars don’t offer us this type of protection.
