‘War’ between chimpanzees and gorillas in Gabon
Did you know that gorillas and chimpanzees are members of the same family? Just like humans, these animals often have interpersonal conflicts. Even though the reasons for such fights might be different among species, they might not be. In a park in Gabon, there have been two occasions where chimps and gorillas fought each other.
The death of a baby gorilla during a fight between chimpanzees and gorillas is worrying because it suggests that the apes are no longer able to coexist peacefully. The reason for the conflict is most likely due to competition for food resources, but whatever the cause, this event serves as a reminder that both species are endangered.
