#12: Summer Memories, Gone Extinct
Fireflies, lightning bugs, glow flies. Whatever you call them, these glowing insects instantly bring back nostalgia for hot summer nights spent outdoors or on the patio. If you grew up seeing hundreds of fireflies on any given summer night, you might have noticed that there seem to be fewer of them these days. It’s not just your imagination.

Firefly populations have dramatically decreased in the last few decades. Some species are even on the brink of extinction. The use of pesticides, human destruction of their habitats, and climate change are all factors that are affecting these delicate firefly populations.
