Remember those coin-operated horses living in front of almost every grocery store in America? Most of us took those things for granted, so we probably didn’t even consciously realize when they no longer existed. They’ve vanished into the thin air of history. What happened to them?

“Kiddie rides,” as they’re popularly called, popped up in the 1930s and became a hit with bored kids running errands with their parents across the nation. Due to loss of interest, snazzy new toys, and dwindling revenue, these mechanical rides have gently faded into nostalgia-tinged memories for many of us. We guess that kids today just play on their parent’s phones when they have to go grocery shopping.
