#8: Pay-Per-Call
Okay, youngins, buckle up. We’re about to discuss an ancient form of technology called “the payphone.” Yes, we know that the idea of memorizing a phone number and calling someone in a designated location seems wild, especially since we all have smartphones in our pockets these days. If you’re old enough to remember telephone booths, you probably remember scraping together all the change you had in your pockets to call your girlfriend or your parents while you were out and about. Nowadays, telephone booths are nearly nonexistent. According to Slate, fewer than 100,000 payphones exist in the US as of 2022.
