Growing Grains
When we have a hunch that one night of unbridled passion a few weeks ago might have resulted in a DNA meeting, we take a deep breath and head to the store for a pregnancy test. We can pee in peace at home and get accurate results within a few minutes, but the ladies of Ancient Egypt had a different method.
Instead of peeing on sticks, they peed on grains and prayed to the gods they’d grow. Modern researchers put this method to the test and found that although it didn’t make for a good gender reveal party, it was 70-85% accurate in identifying pregnancy likely due to higher estrogen levels in pregnant pee.
