Only Pregnant Women Can Understand These…

March 7, 2012 by Jade Parker

Favorite Food Frenemies

Remember when you used to look forward to tucking into a freshly baked pizza, sizzling with roasted tomato sauce, bubbling mozzarella, and more meat than a deli because it was your favorite? Pregnancy will force you to kiss those days goodbye because the sight and smell of it will feel like a mystical vomit witch poked you in the stomach and nostrils, giving you an instant case of the pukes.

There’s actually a fancy medical word for those evil tastebud transformations during pregnancy: dysgeusia. The other downside is that it can make us feel like we mistook the piggy bank for a cookie jar even when we aren’t eating. It can also trick us into enjoying foods we used to hate, which is great if you wind up with a healthier diet.
