#4: Don’t Assume
It doesn’t matter how diverse and eclectic a city is- there will always be people who stereotype others. This bartender was overheard speaking in a really condescending way to someone of a different race and background from him, and it was pretty cringey. He assumed this bar customer was from a different country and felt the need to single him out.
For whatever reason, the bartender assumed this guest, who was Indian, didn’t understand the concept of American tipping practices. Well, you know what happens when someone assumes! We don’t need to spell it out for you. The guest went on to curse the bartender out and defended himself by saying he was from Boston, not a different country. We’re not sure what planet the bartender was living on, but we’re sure most of NYC wouldn’t want to claim him.
