When Life Gives You Lemoms
If you remember some of your high school science, you should know that whether an object floats or not depends on its density compared to the density of the liquid it is placed in. If the object is less dense than the liquid, it will float. If it’s more dense than the liquid it was placed in, it will sink.
But even knowing this scientific explanation doesn’t make it any less weird to see that lemons float in water, while limes sink to the bottom of the pitcher. It turns out that while the two fruits look and taste pretty darn similar, limes are slightly more dense than lemons are! Another fun fact to share at the dinner table.
