#2: We’re All Thankful for This One
While there are several countries where this is allowed, there are more where it isn’t. This is “Freedom of Speech,” the First Amendment to our Constitution. Sadly, in some places, the punishment for speaking freely is steep. For instance, you can owe up to $66k in fines in Lebanon. In Venezuela, up to 40 months in prison.
Even Poland will land you three years in jail! In America, we don’t have to censor our criticisms, even though it makes for many awkward family dinners when we’re divided in our beliefs. That said, I’m not sure we are the freest country in this regard. There’s a lot of social pressure to fall in line with family and friends.
