#25: The Services Are There But Hard to Get
While the idea is nice, the truth is that even with the acts in place, it can be hard to get what you need. You have to advocate for yourself and your family. Otherwise, you get railroaded by the system. Still, there are ample opportunities for people with disabilities if you’re willing to put in the paperwork.
In truth, many other countries top this list. Germany, Australia, Spain, France, and Brazil all have cities that are wheelchair friendly, and the UK and Netherlands have exceptional programs in place for learning disabilities. It’s all in the perspective, though. I’m still thankful for what we have, even if I know we can do better.
