#36: Health Care Woes
Insurance is always a huge headache. One small clerical error can result in a huge problem for patients, doctor’s offices, and laboratories. This woman was unfortunately subjected to a coding error that ended up with her getting banned from her doctor’s office. Doctor appointments are expensive enough as it is, so having to pay for more for no reason is understandably annoying.
The problem was that the doctor’s office incorrectly coded the pap smear as “diagnostic” instead of “preventative” which ended up changing the way her insurance covered the routine test. When she tried calling her doctor’s office to get things cleared up, the nurse refused to change the test code. Frustrated and at the end of her rope, our storyteller told the nurse she was an idiot. Not the best response, but we get it.
