When it comes to our memory, sometimes we manage to remember things slightly differently than how they actually occurred. And whilst that might seem like a problematic thing, it is actually a type of coping mechanism. So when you see something disturbing, your brain tries to alter how you will remember it.
Can you imagine thinking that your first memory is seeing beautiful feathers spread across the sky when really it was the aftermath of chickens being killed? We’re sure that this person was just as shocked to find out the truth about their first memory. They probably never looked at feathers in the same way again…
