#12: We Don’t Actually Have the Heaviest Metal
While our heavy metal bands are widely popular, we don’t rank at the top of the list for this genre per capita. Finland, Sweden, and Germany produce more heavy metal bands than America once the numbers are broken down. The Encyclopaedia Metallicum offers a peek into the world of true metal by country, with stringent requirements for which bands count.
According to their list, at least 145 countries have a heavy metal band, with the US at the top of the list with nearly three times the amount of bands compared to second place. However, Finland has 42.6 heavy metal bands per 100,000 people, while the US doesn’t even make it into the top 15.
