#27: How Do You Do?
It still seems odd that many other countries don’t have the same level of niceties in everyday situations. It would be rather rude if we didn’t offer a smile and a hello to people ringing up our groceries or entering our stores. That said, it’s a toss-up on whether the person you’re making pleasantries with actually cares.

Sometimes we really care how you’re doing, and other times we’re just being polite. Either way, it seems to have an effect on people who aren’t used to it. This makes me feel hopeful that people think kindly of most Americans. Many of us are very happy to see tourists or just smile at strangers.
