Cooling off
A chilly tiled floor by the fridge is a wonderful spot to lay down and cool off after a long walk in the summer heat. This pug seems to be taking advantage of the relief offered by the cold air before resuming its trip. A little treat wouldn’t do any harm at this time.
Because dogs are unable to sweat, they cannot cool down as quickly as humans can. They rely on panting and releasing heat through their paw pads and nose to keep cool rather than sweating. Because of their thick coat, they are prone to overheating. They have a thick fur that serves as an insulating layer and makes them more susceptible to heatstroke. Grooming, particularly for long-haired dogs, protects the dog’s delicate skin and aids in keeping them cool.
