#24: Bridging the Problem
Governments are funny. Back in 1977, a small town in West Virginia called Vulcan literally made contact with the USSR in the hopes that the latter would repair their bridge. Why? Because the town was fed up with their local government stalling on the project. Guess what? It worked. Soviet Russia actually repaired a bridge in West Virginia in 1977.

Now, don’t think it’s lost on us that the town is called Vulcan. Firstly, he’s the Roman god of fire and metalworking. Interesting to think about considering the town couldn’t fix its own bridge with a name like that. Vulcans are also an alien race on Star Trek. That probably has no correlation, but it’s a fun factlet.
