#38: Elementary, My Dear Watson!
Sherlock Holmes is probably one of the most famous pop culture icons of the 20th century. He is a noted and accomplished English detective, which explains why he’s a role model for many young people in England. But he is a fictional character created by author Arthur Conan Doyle.

We’re fine with people thinking that Sherlock Holmes was a real person, but the more alarming statistic is that so many teenagers thought Winston Churchill was a fictional character. Winston Churchill was the prime minister of the UK during WWII – you’d think that’s something all kids would learn in primary school history class.
