Lopsided Lungs
Lungs are not symmetrical, contrary to popular opinion. Technically, our right lungs have three lobes while the left lungs only house two lobes. Why? So that there’s space on the left side chest cavity for the heart. You have to make space for the heart. It’s a fairly crucial organ for survival.
Obviously, this means that the right lung is heavier. Who knows why we went so long thinking our lungs were the same size. But, conversely, the right lung is also shorter because it has to make room for the liver, which is right underneath it. Everything is just crammed inside us, huh? It’s like a game of Tetris!
