Butterflies Are Vampires
Just like mosquitoes are tiny vampires that essentially suck your blood when they bite you, butterflies are also purported bloodsuckers. Well, more like they actively seek out moist surfaces and use their straw-like tongues (known as a proboscis) to suck it all up. Anything from mud puddles to excrement to blood. And here we were thinking they were innocent, beautiful creatures.
So, why do these ethereal, beautiful creatures like to suck wet substances like blood? For the sodium and amino acids, of course! Butterflies need nutrients to survive just as much as we humans do. Just keep your proboscis away from us, you adorable vampires. Additionally, they also drink sweat and tears, which sounds like a better alternative to the red stuff coursing through our veins.
