#39: WW1 Memorial in Vácrátot, Hungary
Sometimes what’s missing can say a lot. This WW1 memorial in Vácrátot, Hungary is one of those cases. The father, definitely a Hungarian soldier, was carved out of his families’ lives forever, like so many others before him. It looks like the names of the fallen are etched beneath. The somber expressions of this family give me goosebumps.
War is terrible for everyone involved. It hardly seems like there are ever even clear winners. Both sides lose so much. When I see this, I cannot help but think how fragile peace is. The sculptor does an amazing job capturing the feeling of this moment in history.
