#8: Ford’s Ad Campaign Targets Women
Three years ago, Saudi Arabia passed a motion allowing women to drive. Ford released this ad campaign to sell and celebrate. This ad is empowering and culturally relevant. It hits all the marks. It’s simple, yet powerful, and low-cost. Not to mention it’s very aesthetic. Cleverly eluding to the hijab shows support for Saudi Arabian women as they strive to balance their newfound freedoms with religion and tradition.
It’s a bit odd, but in the U.S., being recognized as a consumer is sort of a right for passage… similar to getting a license. This small ad speaks volumes about where we are culturally and historically. It’s definitely one of those ads that are a historical stamp, other ideas and laws will eventually build upon.
