Gives a Song New Meaning
We all know the eighties hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley. The song was released in 1987, but folks today are still jamming out to the tune. According to one Twitter poster, the song actually dictates the Astley Paradox, imbuing it with an alternative meaning. Who would’ve thought a harmless, optimistic song from the ‘80s could have a double meaning?
If you ask for Astley’s copy of the animated film Up, he cannot give it to you as he will “never give you Up. However, in doing so, he ‘lets you down.’ Thus creating the Astley Paradox.” Consider our collective mind blown. Boggled, even. Apparently, Astley is a prophet who predicted the release of a 2009 Disney movie 22 years prior.
