Ah, mental illness. It’s hereditary. While it was taboo to discuss one’s “melancholy” even 50 years ago, today it’s becoming less stigmatized. Folks are more open and transparent when it comes to mental health struggles. Our childhood traumas often shape who we are, but the gene pool can also play a part.
According to this Twitter user, when your parents would say, “I’m gonna give you something to cry about,” it was in reference to the genetic mental health issues plaguing the family tree. And not a hefty wallop of pain in the form of a face slap. Those would actually be preferred in this case.
