True Love, Vetoed
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement and marriage have been the subject of the tabloids since the very beginning. However, despite all the gossip and drama, Queen Elizabeth II actually approved of the match. By “approve,” we mean she officially signed a handwritten, illuminated vellum document called the Instrument of Consent!
Yup, Queen Elizabeth II and succeeding monarchs need to officially approve any royal match for the first six successors in line for the throne. That means the Queen had the power to veto Harry and Meghan’s match. The power has since transferred to King Charles. So, when the time comes, he has the power to veto any future matches for Prince William’s kids. Pretty nerve wracking!
