19. Why Clarissa Couldn’t Explain it All
90’s kids looked up to Clarissa. She talked to us directly like a trusted BFF, and we could relate to the pains of going through puberty and surviving an intense sibling rivalry. She was only with us for a short three and a half years before she stopped explaining it all, but it felt like we grew up alongside her.
The show’s creator, Mitchell Kriegman, was down to keep the show going, but Nickelodeon pushed the cancel button because they felt Melissa Joan Hart and her character had aged out of the series. In 2015, Kriegman wrote Things I Can’t Explain as a follow-up to the show, chronicling Clarissa’s late twenties. Rumors of a reboot swirled from 2018 until earlier this year when Hart revealed it wasn’t happening.
