How many times have you laid in bed at night, drifting off to Slumberland, when your stream of sleepy thoughts suddenly carried the most brilliant idea for an invention to your mind’s eye? In most cases, we mull over how cool it would be before sleep overtakes us, and we have no recollection of our awesome idea the next day. However, the urge to take those inventions out of the dream world and into reality is irresistible for the nearly 40,000 applicants competing for a chance to appear on Shark Tank every season. Pitching your idea to the stupendously wealthy Sharks who are looking for nothing less than a multi-million dollar idea comes with a lot of pressure, and only about 56% will walk away with a backer to help launch their product to success. Today we’re remembering some of Shark Tank’s biggest hits that have us reaching for our wallets.
The One That Got Away
The Sharks are swimming in riches thanks to their years of experience, but we’re betting they wish they could buy a time machine with all that moolah after erroneously rejecting the Ring doorbell. The video camera doorbell debuted on Shark Tank as DoorBot and was eventually picked up by Amazon for $839 million.
Ring is now a vital accessory to our homes, and its value is immeasurable. It’s given us laughs by capturing bizarre behavior on our doorstep as well as catching thieves, cheating lovers, and sneaky teenagers coming in after curfew. It also allows us to answer the door without leaving the sofa—we stan anything that enables our couch potato habits.
