13. Old Town Meets New Town
Many within South Korea practice Buddhism, and as technology paved the way for larger buildings within Seoul, they made sure to preserve the ancient founding of the religion within the city square. This is the Jogyesa Temple and is representative of the Jogye Order, a celibate sect of Buddhism.
One of the trees is considered a national monument and is over 500 years old. The tree was brought and planted by a Japanese traveler and continues to thrive today. Inside the square is a series of shops devoted to Buddhist clothing and accessories purchased by Buddhists and Shamans alike.
